Beautiful Wedding at Cathkin Farm in the Central Drakensburg with Jeanette Verster.

Friday 24 February 2012

24 February 2012

This weekend  I am in the Central Drakensburg with the hugely talented photographer Jeanette Verster (www.jeanetteverster.com) as a second shooter at a wedding at Cathkin Farm. After a 6 hour trip - lots of traffic officers trapping, 2 x stop/ry/go's and  lots of chatting we arrived at Wits End where we are staying until Sunday. This is a beautiful part of the country with the mountains and open fields filled with wild flowers. Outside our chalet is a big open field with a bathtub right in the middle of it - a drinking trough for the animals. Pretty cool.

I am proudly South African :-) I love love LOVE every part of this beautiful company - the people, the scenery, the energy, the weather ... everything. Tonight we took 2 French Canadian girls to a restaurant in Greenside called Mammas Shebeen where we ate local food such as wors and pap, bunny chow and black label.  Great night showing off our country.

It is filled with the most scrumptious food. I am going to post a full post on www.laurenkimphotography.com tomorrow - go have a look to see the wonderful things on offer.

So after yesterdays storm Hubby and I walked down to the river in Delta Park and there was a flash flood. Today we went back down there to see the difference. Mother nature is remarkable.

16 February 2012

In Johannesburg, South Africa, summers have an interesting yet fairly reliable weather pattern. The days are generally hot and lovely and then in the late afternoon there is a huge thunderstorm. These normally last for 30min to an hour. Today however the heavens opened and there was a gigantic storm - wind, hail, rain, lightning and thunder. It was amazing to watch (scary but amazing) I stood outside our flat and watched the rivers along the road forming and the cars spewing up water as they drove past. This lady was very calm and just walked along with her umbrella - it was almost like she knew she could not do anything about the weather conditions - I wish more people would be humbled by mother nature instead of trying to fight it. Learn to dance in the rain :-)

15 February 2012

In our house - Wednesdays are date nights. The only rule is we are not allowed to switch the TV on. We play board games, go for walks, movies, out for dinner, adventure golf etc. Last night we went to Pieter Toeriens Theater at Montecasino to watch the Mouse Trap. It is the longest running theater production - 60 years. It is an amazing show - really entertaining. A must see.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!
I have already posted a photo of Proteas however these Proteas are extra special. I work from home and today I had  been working at home most of the day. My husband has been away in Mozambique for a few days and was expected to come home in the evening. At about 4 o'clock I walked around the corner back into the lounge where I had been working all day and looked into our garden. There on our outside table were a bunch of the most beautiful beautiful Proteas. I was so confused as I had been at home all day and could not figure out how these flowers got there without me seeing the "flower fairy" who delivered them. I went to chat to the gardener to see if he knew who they were from. All he said was that they are from your husband. What a surprise - he managed to spoil me from another country. It made me feel so special. A lovely thoughtful gift :-)

12 February 2012

Today I did a photoshoot (Valentines Day Themed) with two very special friends. We had a blast in and on the streets of Parkhurst.

11 February 2012

Every Saturday afternoon hubby and I play tennis. It is so nice to get some exercise and hit the ball around.

10 February 2012

What a lovely day spent with special people. Even though its been drizzling and rainy in Gauteng, there is nothing better than the fresh clean air that rain brings. My very good friend and I took a walk around Zoo Lake - little piece of heaven in the busy Johannesburg. All in all a great start to the weekend.

I saw a saying once...
"If you think there's no love in the world
Take a trip to the arrivals section at the airport
and see the joy and love the world has"
I went to the airport today to see my sister in law and boyfriend who had flown in from Europe.
This is the roof at the International Arrivals at OR Thambo.

7 February 2012

Some days you feel like you are spinning out of control with all the things you need to do in  one day. On days like this - you need to STOP, take a deep breath and smell the fresh air. Today has been one of those days so I stopped and took a photo :) .
This photo idea came from  my hugely talented husband - thanks love.

5 February 2012

After being away for the week, we spent the day at home doing jobs around the house. There is something quite satisfying about accomplishing tasks while enjoying the space of your own home.

Saturday 4 February 2012

4 February 2012

Back to South Africa today. On the way home, we met Hubby's parents in the small town of Groot Marico. After lunch and a stroll along the main street, we went to the Eye of Marico. It's an amazing natural spring which is the source of the Groot Marico river and ultimately joins the Limpopo river. The Eye is about 15m deep and crystal clear - we could see all the scuba divers who come to enjoy the clear water diving.
Another interesting and unique attribute of our beautiful country.

Ross had an afternoon off work today so we went to Mokolodi Game Reserve (10km out of Gaberone - http://www.mokolodi.com/) - it is a gorgeous little reserve with Rhino, Leopard, Antelope and beautiful birds. We saw some interesting things including 2 Fish Eagles fighting off a Bateleur Eagle. There were Kudu all over - I love their big ears
