31 January 2012

Being on a construction site is quite remarkable. The things you see, feel and hear make for a noisy yet dynamic environment. I really enjoy it.

30 January 2012

I am currently in Botswana with Hubby, I am on site with him most of the day and I am learning what being a Civil Engineer entails. It is very different from what I thought and I am enjoying the experience of learning things and meeting new people - including all the crew.

This photo is of one of the drillers - they are incredible at what they do and the knowledge they have is immense. I took photos of them today and have printed them to give them so they can take them home to their family.

What a fun filled day. A very last minute decision resulted in a few of us going to the Soweto Towers and bungee jumping. I was the official photographer ie. Excuse to stay on the ground. If you haven't done it you must go and see these amazing artistic towers. (http://www.orlandotowers.co.za/)

This picture is fairly symbolic of what happened today. I planted these seeds 2 weeks ago and the tiny seeds have grown so much and will eventually be rocket :-) (Amazing what happens when you nurture and care for tiny little things and they bloom into a beautiful plant)

This morning I went to the most incredible place, it is called "The Village" it is a safe haven where abandoned children are given a home. I will be working there a few times a week in the future and I am very excited to assist the amazing team nurture all the beautiful children and help them grow. There will be lots of photographs coming soon of this incredible place.

Today I finally made a decision and took the plunge and invested in myself and Lauren Kim Photography!
I bought a new camera  - a Canon 7D
I have been grinning all day and so happy with this new investment
Lots of great things to come :-)

20 January 2012

Ross and I got married on the 1st of May last year. We were very fortunate to receive some money as a gift from special family. We decided to buy a painting that we can hang in our house and it will forever remind us of our wedding. Buying a painting is not something you rush into, we wanted to see a painting that we both just loved and couldn't live without. 8 months later we found it - this was the one :)
I picked it up today - so exciting.

Thank you to my amazing friends for such a lovely present - hope to have many French meals with you soon.

We live in an old flat with the window above the door. The sun streams through the window every afternoon. I just love the box of light it creates.

Today I felt like a worker bee, flying from flower to flower - busy as a bee (excuse the cliche comment) in our house. There is something so satisfying about spending weekends in your house with loved ones. A lovely day spent in our hive together.

12 January 2012

Today my sister in law (who is an amazing photographer) sent me a link to a picture (http://thechive.com/2012/01/11/daily-afternoon-randomness-49-photos-72/the-humpy-dar-24/)  and told me that was my challenge. I replied saying challenge accepted but that I just needed it to rain - not thinking I would ever get this shot so was holding thumbs that the rain would stay away.  Yet at 4pm the heavens opened and it poured with rain - someone was trying to tell me something! So when hubby came home from work we spent the next hour jumping in puddles trying to get the shot, needless to say that I got filthy doing this. It was such a fun spontaneous afternoon :-) Thanks for the challenge SIL xxx This is my effort

Today I tackled my garden - I love planting herbs and vegetables. Here are some of the many Chillies :-) I have so many of them - I welcome any recipes that incorporate chillies - not too hot though. [I struggled taking this photo of myself - lots of balancing and timing needed with the camera]

3 January 2012

What a beautiful day in Betty's Bay today - day on the beach and a trip to the Jack Ass (African) Penguin colony. It was huge entertainment watching these little birds (who are molting at the moment) bask in the sun. This guy makes me laugh - he just looks so over the day, angry almost. Makes me chuckle.

Monday 2 January 2012

2 January 2012

Today the wind howled yet it was a beautiful sunny day. I had organised as a Christmas present to my family that Lauren from Lauren Kriedemann Photography (www.laurenk.co.za) come take some family images all together at Betty's Bay. We had great fun on the beach and I cant wait to see the photographs. So special having beautiful family images - which I know these will be.

So here I am with Lauren and her husband Kevin.
